PCO held their annual 12 Days of Christmas Assembly December 10th and the reviews of the amazing show were as jolly as ever.
“I loved every minute of the show. The performances were great. My favorite was the step team and the drum line,” senior Cornelia Carter Greene said
Over 400 PCO students participated in the assembly, from skits and games to dance numbers and Christmas carols.
“Performing was exciting because we got to do the show twice and make the crowd laugh” senior Amiyah Evans said
A lot of preparation and love went into making this a memorable experience.
“I can tell they worked very hard on everything, and the orchestra sounded great” math teacher Mrs. Cooper said
Even though PCO had to have two assemblies due to Covid protocols, it took a little bit of more effort from everyone in order to keep everyone safe but the end result was worth it.
“The 12 Days Assembly was very different this year because only seniors and some juniors knew what to expect. Obviously Covid has affected everything by making sure everyone was masked up backstage and were following the protocols," STUCO advisor Mrs. Schmidt said.
Last year the school did not get to experience the 12 Days Assembly because of Covid. Thankfully, this year more seniors wanted to participate because they didn’t want to miss out on anymore of their high school experience.
“Going out with a bang was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to participate and do as much as I could for the assembly. Another reason I wanted to do so much for this assembly is because we haven’t had a 12 Days Assembly since I was a sophomore. Of course it couldn’t have been done without everyone giving their utmost effort to try to come up with fun and entertaining skits that everyone could get involved in," senior, Shyla Woody said.
Even the freshmen and sophomore students appreciated it more.
“It was so much fun. I can’t wait to see and be part of next year's assembly,” sophomore Erica Jackson said
It takes everyone’s efforts to be able to plan an assembly like this one. Coming up with this assembly took hard work and lots of hours to complete.
“As a council we all came up with the different skits. We talked about cool things that we would want to see in it and started putting them together.
Then we had certain representatives that would run each skit and come up with what we needed and the whole outline of it. We started planning about a month in advance and that’s how long it took us to bring it all together. It involved a lot of organizing with what was gonna go first, putting the performances where they wanted to go, and getting the props that we needed," senior Kaleb Whitaker said.
While the assembly does take a lot of hard work to put on, it also allows the participants to meet new people. This could be the start of new friendships that could last throughout all of high school.
“I wanted to participate in the assembly because it’s an amazing opportunity to work with several different people from different classes and be able to put on a good show. Since I was helping put the show on, I didn’t get to participate in any skits besides the STUCO Christmas story but that was an amazing thing to be a part of. I would definitely recommend participating to others because it’s a great way to get involved and meet new students and teachers, " senior Rita Ojene said.

A Night of a Thousand Lights
After not being able to have a winter formal last year because of COVID, this year was a special night for PCO students. It was on December 11th at PCO in the new cafeteria from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets were on sale during both lunches in the new cafeteria. Couples tickets were $25 and individuals were $15.
“Mr.Hardesty asked me if I could take tickets.. I took tickets with Mrs.Schmidt. It was fun to see all the students dressed up. Mr.Hardesty did a really great job decorating. For a moment, I forgot it was the lunch room because there were so many twinkly sparkly lights,” FACS teacher Ms.Grotheer said.
Students worked hard to transform the cafeteria into a winter wonderland.. It was very noticeable that the students were having a good time and enjoyed it.
“When we were walking down to the cafeteria the lights were really pretty. Everything was decorated better than I thought it would be," sophomore Tyetta Mosley said.
The students that attended really appreciated the work that activities director, Mr.Hardesty and the students put into the winter formal.
“I helped Hardesty decorate. I hung up the big black curtains. I was also in charge of the food/snacks. Overall, it was really fun. The DJ was really goofy. The turnout was good, there were a lot of people dancing. The red carpet was a big success, and everyone was taking pictures at the entryway,” senior Kaleb Whitaker said.
The leadership students and Mr.Hardesty spent a lot of time setting up and preparing for the winter formal. Everyone ended up having a great time and enjoyed everything.
“Every day for two weeks, during two classes, so about 30-40 hours, we spent preparing and setting up. I thought everything was very good, the kids worked really hard, and the decorations were really good. We had about 300 students show up, the turnout was great. I attended, I had to do a lot of work, but it was a good time. The students had a good time and that’s all that matters,” activities director Mr.Hardesty said.

If you like heartfelt comedies, teen dramas or dramas just in general, then these are the shows for you! Here I will be recommending shows that I think will fit in your category. Some shows are 1-4 seasons long, while others are 1-2 seasons long. Not bad, especially if you’re a binge watcher.
Atypical is a heartfelt comedy with elements of drama. This show talks about a young adult named Sam who’s on the autism spectrum throughout high school. As Sam finds himself becoming more independent, others around him are still trying to figure it out. Sometimes Sam wants to do things on his own, while his mother either supports it or is worried about it. His dad and sister are all here for it.
It's a show that sometimes warms my heart, and there are moments when the characters tend to go through a little too much just to get through high school. I can say that I do like the relationship between some characters. They either have a really good bond with each other or they have things to work on. Overall, Atypical is a good show, and it’s short as well. also an emotional show with a little? comedy.
Never have I Ever is a teenage drama about coming of age. This show mainly focuses on a first generation Indian American teenager. After being put through a traumatic year of becoming paralyzed and losing her father, the young teenager works extremely hard to improve her status during school and with friends, but of course there are challenges that stand in the way.
It's is a show that I would put on repeat all day, every day. I say this because the main character says some funny and relatable things. There's other times where she has heartwarming moments with her family and friends. This show is something that I would most definitely recommend to others.
On My Block is a comedy-like show that has coming of age events in it. This show follows four “street- savvy” friends who navigate their way through high school and life. It can be a challenge when RollerWorld Money is involved, as they seek out new discoveries with the help of one friend. It creates pain and triumph throughout their journey.
On My Block is one show that is unforgettable. It has comedy, drama, moments where it makes you upset, and there’s moments where it makes you sad too. This show really knows how to capture the emotions of the characters, especially the character Jamal. He has to be my favorite character of all time. Mouse and Caesar have their moments where I don’t understand them. They can be complicated.

Movies are a major influence in our lives, and nowhere else do they have a greater effect on us than in our childhood. Everyone has their favorite childhood movie, with the two titans of children's movies being Dreamworks and Disney, and both of them giving us masterpieces that almost everyone has seen. Here are some of my favorites.
Shrek is one of the most recognizable Dreamworks movies. Before Trolls, Shrek was the face of Dreamworks, due to its uniqueness when it came to story and comedy. The reason why Shrek is one of my favorite childhood movies is because of its message “Don't judge a book by its cover” and “You shouldn’t make fun of people because of their appearance.”
Kung fu Panda is a well known movie due to its action and comedy. It was heavily influential to me, due to its main character, Po. He was a fun and lovable guy who just so happened to be the dragon warrior, which pushed the message “Anyone can be destined for greatness.”
Toy Story was Disney's first 3D animated movie, and even though it was their first one, it looks fantastic. The concept of toys coming to life is every child's dream, and Disney did a really good job of making it a reality. The story works very well, and it is really easy to get invested.
Cinderella is one of the most well known Disney movies. It is an instant classic. It left an impression on me, still being one of my favorite Disney movies.. It’s charm and its difference from other Disney movies of the time really made it a unique experience for me.
Lion King is a movie that I will never forget, no matter what. It has some of my favorite Disney songs, such as “Hakuna Matata,”” Can't wait to be King” and “Be Prepared.” It is also the first movie that made me cry.. The sadness I felt when Mufasa fell has never been replaced by anything.
